Surely the granddaddies of British Christian roots music Rodney and Jean Pierre have been laying down ballads, jigs and reels when much of Christendom thought folk music was terminally uncool. Somehow the recognition and accolades from Britain's Christian music scene have eluded this Irish/French duo, although they have been almost folkies in residence at Greenbelt. Instead, Cordner's plaintive voice and percussive guitar and Rudolph's dazzling fiddle have had to look to the traditional music scene to earn a crust. That they've done so says much for their musicianship and virtuosity. This, their sixth album together, has popular traditional opuses like "Tipsy Sailor" and "Earl Of Hyndford" mixed with plenty of Cordner and Rudolph originals. For me the standout is "The Blade", a truly moving song. No UK distribution for this album at the moment so get your cheques off to Rodney.
