Since the '70s Irish singer/songwriter Rodney Cordner has been a pioneer of rootsy folky Christian music. His partnership with French multi-instrumentalist Jean-Pierre Rudolph over the last two decades has led to some excellent music and 'One Of The Few' is their latest collaboration. Recorded in 1999, the album mixes roots and Celtic influences to create an enticing blend of driving folk-style songs penned by Cordner and enigmatic instrumentals from Rudolph whose fiddle playing is amazing. There are traditional songs ("Black Is The Colour"), social commentary ("'Celtic Tiger"), fun ("Fiddle Stick"), spiritual insights ("A Song") and poignant ballads ("Margaret And Me"). If you love rootsy Celtic stuff, this needs to be on your shopping list.
