Brought up singing in their local CME church, Philadelphia disco soul act Sister Sledge are of course most famous for their 1979 megahit "We Are Family" - which has in turn become infamous for that "just let me staple the vicar" mondegreen as highlighted by comedian Peter Kay - but, as this 1993 greatest hits package shows, there was much more to this sibling act than just their signature tune and a misheard lyric. Other massive songs featured here include "He's The Greatest Dancer", "Lost In Music" and the group's 1985 comeback single "Frankie" with the winning formula of gentle disco grooves and some added strings to back the girls' no frills vocals in evidence throughout. Spanning two decades, this compilation stretches back to the group's early days with tracks like "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me" and "Mama Never Told Me" sounding decidedly lightweight when compared to the sound Chic's Nile Rodgers got out of them at the end of the '70s. A pleasing enough cover of the Mary Wells classic "My Guy" is also featured as well as perfunctory remixes of "We Are Family" and "Lost In Music" - both of which would see this successful sister act return to the UK charts in 1993.
