Over the years Taize has been a place of pilgrimage for many, drawing together people from every Christian tradition. Its music, which is unique, is a product of the lifestyle of its community. The melodies are simple and allow for improvisation while the style is traditional and monastic - like a modern day Gregorian chant. This album, which was recorded in the chapel of Westcott House Theological College in Cambridge, captures the atmosphere of Taize. It has 12 songs which include "Laudate Dominum, Jesus Remember Me" as well as the title track "My Soul Is At Rest" and features a four part choir and cantors, the instrumental backing being provided by lona's Mike Haughton playing saxophones and flute. While it is obviously intended to be part of a larger collection of albums it does, however, provide an excellent introduction to the music of Taize.
