'In God Alone' is the third album in a series of music from Taize. It was recorded in the chapel of Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge and is dedicated to the memory of Anna King who sang on the first two albums. It contains 12 choral pieces written in Latin and English which reflect the meditative spirit of the Taize community. The lyrics range from single line chants to a responsorial piece like "Christus Resurrexit" which is based on the Psalms, and the title song which exhorts us to "find our rest and peace" in God alone. The only featured musician is Mike Haughton who provides some very tasteful soprano and tenor saxophone accompaniment. It is a superb, well-recorded album, however, in spite of its beauty will probably have limited appeal to those who like choral music. But for those looking for those simple but truly anointed songs from the Catholic renewal and find the original tapes of the songs either too hard to get hold of (the distribution of Taize stuff in the UK has been abysmal) or too raw (they simply turn on a recorder during worship and release the results!) this album is for you.

i just love these taize songs! they make prayer more solemn and I can really feel the connection between God and myself...

Some of these sound little like the original - though it could just be the quality of the MP3 files.

the song 'when the night' is a deep and beautiful one. i've been searching for it since i left taize.
