Mornings start early for me at the moment because I am presenting a breakfast programme on the radio so I decided to road test this album a 4.45am to see whether, as I was waking at dawn, it would set me up for the day. Sadly not, but hey! It's dedicated to his Mum, so Steve's a good boy! The major orchestral arrangement of the title cut was just too loud at 5am! But then it got a little mellower! Phew.. don't want to upset the neighbours! One thing that strikes me about Mr Greens voice is that here he often sounds like Ian White! isn't that spooky? Teamed once more with his usual bunch of cohorts so Phil Naish does production duties whilst Rob Mathes contributes some good arrangements so this time compared to the smooth glossy bland productions of a whole careers worth of music, this is actually a breath of fresh air. Though I really could have done without yet another version of "Morning Has Broken"! Ho hum! I think I prefer Steve when he's not doing his inspirational vocalist bit but chooses just to warmly deliver a song like "Lord Of The Dawn". Songs for early birds? Guess so though I prefer something meatier to wake up to.
