A radical kids' album, produced by Sammy Horner in association with YWAM Glasgow's PlayPeace Project, starring the PlayPeace Kids, a largely unchurched group of inner-city children, with all the song ideas for the album coming from the kids themselves. So not the usual nursery rhyme-style children's CD, but, as Sammy explains in the sleevenotes, a CD that takes elements of world musical styles, thumping techno beats, rap/hip hop (courtesy of Rodd Christensen of Rodd And Marco fame), and drum 'n' bass, to create music based on what children and young people actually feel about God, faith, relationships, their neighbourhood, love and the world around them. All profits from sales of the album go back into YWAM missions and schools work and given Sammy's track record in the genre, it will not surprise you to learn that this scores nil on the Cringe-ometer. All the musical styles mentioned above are fully present, along with a considerable dollop of Celtic in the mix ("Scotland The Brave" even gets a look-in!), and Sammy is there supporting the kids on nearly every track. Backing trax for the songs are also included and some of the titles give a revealing insight into what kids today are thinking: "When I'm Old", "Heal Our Land", "God Doesn't Care", "Topsy Turvy Kingdom". There can be no more appropriate quote from Scripture to inspire outreach to inner-city kids than Jesus' words in Matthew 18:14 - "Your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost." All power to your elbow, Mr Horner! The rest of you, buy this and help make a difference.

Everything said in the article is so true, this CD is great and at just the right levels for todays seemingly hardnosed kids whose lives are so different to what mine was at their age. I wish I knew where to get more of this kind of music for our youngsters; I dont play any musical instrument and need CDs to get them singing and dancing to praise the Lord!
