If Cross Rhythms ever get around to publishing a Building A Basic Christian Music Library article or somesuch, we'd no doubt include this compilation (or possibly Susan's other best of, 2006's excellent 'Ultimate Collection'). What we can say is that this set, released in 1995, contains the creme-de-la-creme of the Nashville singer's work with tracks like 1994's "Waiting For Your Love To Come Down", 1992's "Here In My Heart" and her haunting, all time classic, 1991's "Down On My Knees" showing off just why Ms Ashton briefly vied with Amy as THE voice of CCM. As is demonstrated on some of the later tracks here Susan had a style which contained a bit of country in its inflections. (Susan went on to make an unsuccessful pitch at the country music mainstream.) But even if you don't usually care for country music, Susan's pure-toned voice and exemplary productions from Wayne Kirkpatrick make the tracks here CCM of the highest quality.

Around mid August'95 this first collection of Susan's well known songs hits the shelves. The 1992 "Here in my Heart" begins the 12 songset; it's not my pick for the starter, preferably something from "Wakened by the Wind" debut like "Down on my Knees" would have faired better. "Waiting for Your Love to Come Down" will always hold a special place, just love this song immensely:wtg Susan & Wayne. #3 on cd is brand new song "Stand" as is "Hide or Seek", the latter written by newcomer ccm artist Carolyn Arends.
"In Amazing Graceland", "Grand Canyon" , "Beyond
Justice to Mercy" 7 "No One Knows my Heart" are top fave songs that also fill this volume 1. More cd song diversity might have better suited as well, even more songs for a cd collection. NOTHING from "Walk On" cd,
the cd was from 1994, and this cd title is best "so far". I guess we will have to wait for volume 2 cd.
5 years into recording, volume 1 is released, it's been
more than twice as long & no volume 2 yet.
If you have nothing by Suan this is the cd to buy.
GOD Bless! -Don
