Reviewed by Steven Whitehead All Saints' Church, Northampton, has a rich musical tradition, almost as strong as many cathedrals. This release, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the girl's choir, builds on the previous successes of all the choirs from All Saints' although it has been recorded down the A43 at Oxford, where the acoustic of the chapel at Exeter College is used to full effect. This collection is choral music from 20th century France, featuring works by Fauré, Caplet, Duruflé, Langlais and Alain. At 54 minutes it is disappointing that there was no room for Poulenc but, as it stands, this is still an enjoyable collection and the girls, directed by Edward Whiting with Richard Pinel on the organ, sound very good indeed. For the closing song, Duruflé's "In Paradisum", the girls are joined by a specially assembled group of Oxford-based gentlemen and very fine they all sound too. This reviewer would be very pleased to hear more from all of them.
