The real 'star' of this popular album series is not the vocalists (The Saint Michael's Singers featured here get their small print artist credits tucked away in the CD booklet) but the hymns themselves. Having exhausted the big names of hymnody (Wesley, Watts, Sullivan, Sankey, etc) The Hymnmakers now look for more nebulous concepts (Scottish Hymns, Welsh Revival Hymns, etc) to hold the series together. This selection of 14 Easter hymns, plucked largely from the Anglican hymn book, has its fare share of timeless classics (Ireland's "My Song Is Love Unknown", Miller's "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross", Handel's "Thine Be The Glory") and a few which are musically dreary despite the heart-lifting words ("Lift High The Cross"). The sound quality (the album was recorded at Coventry Cathedral) is muddy, the sleevenotes are exemplary.

The album sounds lovely. Just wondering if you know whether
the tune to "There is a Green Hill Far away" is now in
Public Domain or if it is still under copyright. I've
written a hymn myself which lends itself rather nicely to
that tune, and would like to record it some time, but don't
know where to find out what I need to know about the above
hymn's copyrights if any. Can you please help me. Thank
you. Jo
