Let me be vulnerable right from the outset and confess I came to this album with some fear and trepidation. Of course, it goes without saying that our Christian heritage contains some magnificent songs that shine like beacons in a morass of spiritual darkness, and this 13th album in Kingsway's Hymn Maker series is a notable and worthy rekindling of Welsh spirituality through song. But, I have to confess I found the 14-track CD bland to the point of musical and, dare I say, spiritual neutrality. I was longing to be emotionally charged by that wall of masculine Welsh harmony and to feel that electrically-charged tingle down the spine. But, sadly, I felt somewhat cold and bereft after listening to 14 songs that blended into a seamless, and surprising, lack of passion. I'm sure, however, others will enjoy the sound of a Welsh Male Voice Choir, regardless of my comments. But, see if your spiritual and emotional antennae make the slightest twitch after hearing this album.
