Seldom does the teaming up of two singer/songwriters produce such emotive music but Debra Black and Victor Gonzalez here show that they have that certain something which pulls them out from the hoard of other songsmiths currently vying for streaming attention. Debra's voice, first heard on the worship releases issued through her church in Florida, is genuinely goose-bump-inducing while on a song like "Deliverance" coupled with Victor's dry-as-dust vocal tones over the eerie electro accompaniment surrounding them, the effect is jaw-dropping. You'll be hearing "Deliverance" on the radio in the months ahead and the same can be said for the electrifying composition "Run" (caution here - there's another song called "Run" by a band called The Ruins on YouTube). The Christian The Ruins offer a heartfelt prayer for the Lord to rescue them from the shadows that sometimes grip all our lives. It's powerful stuff. Even Victor's brief rap works well. All in all, this is one of the outstanding releases of the year.
