No one would claim that The Starlights are in the upper echelons of the gospel scene but this Californian old school quartet have, down the years, served God faithfully. Gospel students should note that the group are related to singer Henry Bott Sr who was in the fondly remembered Pilgrim Travelers. This live set from The Starlights kicks off with "He's A Friend Of Mine", a great song written by Henry Bott Sr's son Greg. It talks about the nurturing relationship with Jesus. The vocals are superb and Greg is helped on this album by his nephews Ronnie, Rodney and Albert. "Here We Go Again" is mellow song with an infectious beat. A particular standout here is their gospelisation of the Temptation's oldie "Just My Imagination" though it doesn't quite hit the heights of the Rance Allen Group reading. Paying homage to their father and grandfather The Starlights also offer a version of the classic Pilgrim Travelers song "Did You Stop To Pray This Morning". This track opens with Greg Botts giving a spoken intro, explaining how the recording came about and putting questions to the audience. "Changed Man" is a vocally strong ballad which demonstrates the powerful voices of these five men who are set to continue with their family's musical tradition.
