This album reminds me of a musical odyssey by a prodigal son who has come back to his musical and spiritual roots at the same time. 10 original songs, starting with "The Valley May Be Dark" which sets the tone for some of the newest and freshest songs I have heard in a long time. The utter simplicity and sincerity of such other tracks as "To Christ The Redeemed Sinners Run" and concluding with the heartfelt "I'm Gonna Rest In Jesus" just have to be heard to be enjoyed. Mainly accompanied by his own guitar and harmonica the best way I can describe Wesley's singing is as a cross between early Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Townes Van Zandt. I suppose nowadays many would describe this as possibly roots or Americana music, but whatever moniker you choose to label it, I was really knocked out by this tremendous and very powerful and moving release.
