William Becton is a very talented man. Not only is he a producer of the highest quality, but an excellent singer, and an equally good songwriter. On top of these musical talents, he was recently ordained, and, as if his own talents were not enough, he has brought together some of his "friends" to help on his project. 'B2K: Promise' is Becton's third album, (although he does produce albums for other artists as well). His debut album, 'Broken', was at the lop of the US gospel charts for more than 10 weeks and, when you listen to this CD, you can understand why. The cover of the Isley Brothers' "Harvest For The World" is a definite standout track, with Derrick Speight singing beautifully, but there are also many good Becton-composed tracks on the album. "No Good Thing" mixes old-style gospel vocals with a very funky bass, and "Sweet Bye And Bye" adds interest with Cher-like computerized vocals. I don't think the album as a whole is quite as good as Kirk Franklin's 'Nu Nation Project' or Sounds Of Blackness' Time For Healing', and the spoken interludes can get tedious, but it is very professional, uplifting and spiritual, which is what it's all about, is it not?
