There are some pretty stirring anthems on this disc, none more so than the first track by Thomas Weelkes "Hosanna To The Son Of David", together with beautiful, lyrical tracks like "Teach Me O Lord" by William Byrd, sung with a great deal of style here by Robert Stringer. "This Is The Record Of John" by Orlando Gibbons is sung by a male alto (Stephen Shellard) whose clarity and tone are worthy of note, evoking the vaulted Tudor style with unsurpassed ease and panache. The whole recording is like sitting in the lounge giving your ears a warm, refreshing shower and coming out after 50 minutes with a warm glow that lasts for quite a while afterwards.
