As might be evident from the title, 'June' is one of 12 double-CD/book combos released by Kingsway with the laudable aim of trying to encourage the modern worshipper into a regular devotional routine. This makes a lot of sense if you consider that personal intimacy (rather than, or sometimes as well as, corporate exhortation or doctrinal declaration) has been arguably the prevalent theme of most worship songs written in the last 20 years or so; today's songwriters have undoubtedly sought and found places of personal prayer and praise for many to inhabit through their offerings. And so this collection (like its 11 companion releases) provides a daily reflection written by Richard Herkes (church leader, editor and compiler of Scripture indexes for 'Songs Of Fellowship') inspired and accompanied by a track from Kingsway's vast worship back catalogue. Personal taste will no doubt apply for most listeners but to my ears there's not a duff tune here, and not a few classics ("Thank You For Saving Me", Delirious?; "The Eyes Of My Heart" sung by Tim Hughes; "God Is Here", Lara Martin; "O For A Closer Walk", Stuart Townend, etc). Furthermore Herkes' writing is to-the-point (helpful, as space is at a premium on every page with lyrics included for every song as a meditative aid) and poignant. Good stuff.

Product Description
An innovative new project that hits refresh on the concept of the daily devotional. Worship Devotional offers something that is genuinely new and undeniably valuable.
Worship Devotional comes in the form of a series of double CDs, each a compilation of some of the greatest worship songs recorded in recent years. And accompanying each of those songs is a specially written devotional text that unpacks the lyrics, points back to the Bible and guides the reader through a beautifully written reflection on the God-centred heart of the song. Prompts to pray and act also follow, and combined with the songs themselves, Worship Devotional offers a great way to go deeper with God.
