Article Title: Five Things I Wish I Had Told Myself When I Started Ministry

Comment: Hi Alistair, I welcome your comments as I've just started training in theology at the age of 56! However, I do think that all your observations could be applied to any profession. Especially the one I've been involved with for 36 years now - parenthood! People queue up to tell you where you're going wrong- and its decades before you really see a return on your 14 hour days. You want to see time management? Try a part time job (20 hrs) plus four children aged between 17 and 2, plus a dual degree at Keele (because you can't get a job and need to update your skills). Emulating someone you consider great at the job? Yeah, good until you've been awake for 3 days and nights straight and spent your time alternately cleaning up sick and disinfecting the toilet! That sorts the goats from the sheep! Keeping your integrity becomes a life mission and as for reading? How about 'The Enormous Turnip' x 4 x 3 years? I'm now studying theology, and think I'm in heaven! Time for myself, even if I'm working flat out - bliss! Good on you for even taking the time to reflect - I think its the first step before the next one (best known to yourself what that step might be) Blessings, Ros x
