Paul Calvert spoke with Canon Andrew White

Continued from page 2

Andrew: Prayer is the power behind everything. No prayer, no salvation, no victory, no joy, prayer is everything, because the Lord is here, His spirit is with us, so we will not fail and everything will happen.

Paul: Today in Jerusalem there has been a horrific terror attack in a Synagogue. How can you bring two people together that are in bitter conflict when there is suspicion and religious ideology?

Andrew: Today you can't. They are hurting, people are really really hurting. I have been with Rabbi Melchior today and Rabbi Melchior is one of the leading Rabbis here. He was a member of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament), he was Deputy Foreign Minister, Minister of Trade and he has been phoning his various Muslim friends and trying to get them to say publicly, "We are with you, we are against this" and they have said it, but do you think the press wants to listen? No, because it is good news. They just want to hear the bad news. Yes there is hope, but people don't want to hear hope, they want to hear the disasters. God is about the victory.

Paul: Do you think that the latest uprising in Israel will lead to a war in the Middle East?

Andrew: I think the increased violence in Israel, the tension between Israel and Palestine is very serious. Things are not good and things could get worse, but we who are serving here, I am sitting here talking to you in the Evangelical Church in Bethlehem, with Pastor Naim and Steven Khourey and they have lived through such incredible threats, they are still loving their Messiah, loving Jesus, loving Palestine and loving Israel. They are the hope and we hope with them.

Paul: What is your prayer for the entire region?

Andrew: My prayer for the entire region is that they may know that God loves them. That God is love and his spirit is with them, he's not left them alone and soon and very soon he is coming back. One of my Muslim colleagues, Dr Sarah, she said to me just four weeks ago, "I think Jesus is coming soon". Things are so bad, yes we think Jesus is coming soon.

Paul: Canon Andrew White, thank you very much.

Andrew: Thank you my friends and don't take care, take risks. Believe what you hear and go for it. There are too many woolly Christians around the world at the moment who don't really believe anything. Go for it!! CR
