2 Kings 22-23, 1 Timothy 1:18

Continued from page 1

Josiah had all the authority of the King but failed to function in his office. As a result the nation suffered. Today we have young people who are Christians in nature but they are not Christians in practice. Josiah's society was waiting for him to make a decision to reign.

According to the 2005 English church Census:

  • Of the 50,309,000 people living in England, 3,166,200 usually attend church on a Sunday; regular churchgoers therefore amount to 6.3% of the total population.

  • The number of existing churches in England is estimated to stand at 37,501.

  • The proportion of churches per individuals is now one church to 1,340 people; the size of the average Sunday congregation, however, is 84.

If every Christian functioned to extend the Spiritual reign of Christ, a massive revival would sweep this nation. I believe the Holy Spirit is waiting for Christians to simply act out the word of God. We already have enough people to significantly change the culture of Great Britain and the nations of Europe. We need to stop waiting for better equipment and resources and use what God has given us. When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit I had little in terms of resources and yet about 20 of my friends became Christians. They didn't need a PA, musical equipment, lights...they needed Jesus.

When I moved to the UK, we had very little resource. Just a few young people and a few hundred in the church. But we had God! Now we have amazing musicians, singers and leaders in our bands like RPM. Every week teams lead music, speak and lead people to Jesus in Leeds, Belfast and Bradford from Abundant Life. We have an incredible pastoral team who continue to grow and invest in people because they are putting God's word into practice.

This is a cultural revolution as young people are running youth ministries not just youth clubs. There is a place for ping-pong and playstations, but it is only to attract the crowd. Once people come they need ministry that establishes the local church.

After Josiah understood the word of God for 13 years he led a cultural reform that:

  • Renewed covenant

  • Got rid of prostitutes/idolatry

  • Restored financial systems

  • Reinstated the national holiday of Passover

  • Started a national building and architectural plan

And much more

Josiah's empowerment at such a young age has caused me to relook at how I empower young people. I must believe for greater things for this generation! In doing that I am learning to trust that the Holy Spirit who began the good work in people would bring it to completion.

Remember Inside You Lives The King Of Kings

Why was Josiah able to do so much? 2 Kings 23:25 states that "Neither before or after was there a king like Josiah who turned to the Lord as he did."

Josiah was able to do so much because inside his heart was a relationship with the King of Kings. Our job as youth leaders must be to help young people put Jesus in his rightful place in their hearts. If we can help get the King of Kings in the hearts of our kids, there will be no telling what this generation can do.

The King of Kings lives inside the heart of a kid who believes in Jesus. Literally, there is a King in the kids. That's why Jesus was able to say a little child will lead them.
