Recently, I received an email from a friend of mine asking if I wanted to use his car for a few weeks while he was away on holiday and business. His car is no ordinary car; it's one of the fastest cars on the road. Obviously it didn't need much praying about! So, I accepted his generous offer. During the weeks running up to using it my anticipation was growing and I was really looking forward to driving it, taking others for rides and generally having a bit of fun in it.

During the last couple of weeks while I have been using it I have had a fantastic time and a lot of fun yet I have been left with a feeling of dissatisfaction. Even though it's fast, looks very cool and can put a big smile on your face, compared to what life's really all about it's simply a piece of metal with wheels on. In my feelings of dissatisfaction a couple of questions arose:-

What are we building our lives on?

Are we living for the temporal or the eternal?

Read Matt 7:24-27 Wise and Foolish builders.
LK 21:33 'Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never pass away.'

Jesus is showing us that the things of this life come and go, they won't even last a life time. But if we build our lives on His word which lives forever and continue to live in relationship with Him, then we will not be shaken or consumed by the stuff that can so easily attract and distract us from seeing His purposes fulfilled in and through our lives.

So, what is eternal?

God, His word and the souls of people.

What is His eternal purpose?

Prov 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.

God wants to produce the fruit of people coming to know Him through our lives.

Matt 28:18-20 ...Go! Make Disciples of all nations.....baptize.....teach them to obey.....

The Great Commission - the purpose of the church.

In Matt 6:25-34 Jesus says 'Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and everything else will be added to you as well.' As we seek to live the eternal - seeing people's lives changed, God will look after the 'everything else' - the temporal.

So, let's build our lives around what is eternal and seek to invest in people's lives today and God will look after everything else. Let's live for God's eternal purposes and see what He can do through you.

Have a fantastic day! CR
