John 6: 1-12, 26-27 and 35

Continued from page 1

"I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."

Jesus is saying here "I can feed you bread...but you'll be hungry again. What I really want you to embrace is the abundant life that I generously offer - then your search for meaning, purpose and significance will be at an end."

Jesus knows that only the creator of your soul can heal your soul and make you whole. This is God's grace - we don't deserve God to be so good to us and yet He gives everything so that we would have life in all its fullness, both now and for all eternity.

How do you respond to a God like that?

How crazy would it have been for those gathered on the side of the lake that day to say to Jesus, "sorry Jesus, we don't want your food, we'd rather go hungry"? We'd say they were mad.

And yet Jesus offers so much more than bread today - He offers us His life - and His life is a life of forgiveness, a life of love, a life of hope, a life of faith, a life of joy, a life of peace, a life of patience, a life of goodness, a life of kindness, a life of gentleness, a life of self-control, a life of fruitfulness, a life of purpose, a life of significance, a life of healing, a life of wholeness, a life of restoration, a life of the miraculous - and so much more - eternal life.

Surely the only response is to embrace that life. To respond to God as wholeheartedly as Jesus responds to us and say to Him 'I want this life that you so generously offer'.
