Apologetix have been making their brand of Christian comedy parodies since 1992, putting Christian lyrics to popular secular tunes in the same way that Weird Al Yankovic has made his living for years. Nine albums later, Apologetix have released 'Hits: The Road', which is, like most Apologetix releases, a lot like Marmite. You love it, or you hate it (or you eat it on toast). The music on this album is tight and well produced, particularly for a live album, and the lyrics, for what they are, do the job. It's just that what they are is Bible stories set to tunes by Maroon 5, Blink 182, Rush, Eminem, Pink Floyd, etc. The choice of songs is great. The question is really Why? Apologetix compare well to Weird Al, but mainly because, like him, they aren't that funny. "All the Stalls Stink", about life on Noah's Ark amuses and the formula of each song can make you chuckle one moment and wince the next. This is more suited to American youth groups but we Brits remain unconvinced that such solid musicianship as shown here couldn't be put to some better use.
