As any long-in-the-tooth follower of worship music will tell you, Carl Tuttle is one of the seminal figures in the development of contemporary worship. His classic songs, such as "Hosanna" and "I Worship You", helped establish Vineyard Music. But today many of those original Vineyard recordings sound out-of-date and (dare I say it) cheesy. Hence this new album with producer Randy Rigby and a bevy of session singers neatly updates many of Tuttle's classic songs. Intriguingly, one of those singers, Danny Daniels, who sings a stirring version of "I Worship You", was another of the Vineyard Music pioneers. With refreshingly God-focused lyrics this album is good at bringing the focus straight back to the author and perfector of our faith. The arrangements here range from very steady up-beat songs with a good, powerful drum beat to songs with a more atmospheric feel produced by the keys with creative and somewhat ambient electric guitar. Songs like "Thank You For Being" are a good example of the variety on this album; this song has a very chilled out jazz feel. Overall this CD does what it sets out to do, bringing our attention back to some wonderful worship songs.
