Reviewed by Tony Cummings Subtitled 'Country Songs Of Faith, Love And Inspiration' from a vocal and production standpoint is one of the best compilations this particular good ol' boy has ever heard. Truly magnificent cuts from the vast Sony catalogue, by (deep breath) Patty Loveless, Ken Mellons, Collin Raye, Mike Reid, Ricky Van Shelton & Andy Landis, Shenandoah, Ricky Skaggs, Doug Stone, Rick Trevina and Ron Wallace. These songs, recorded by a major, tend towards the "positive country" approach with pro-family values and morality on offer and not too much direct evangelism. But they are magnificent none the less. Shenandoah are currently my favourite country group while Rick Trevino's "Life Can Turn On A Dime" and Collin Raye's " A Bible And A Bus Ticket Home" are the kind of homespun vignettes that have always made country such a compelling listening experience. Then there's "She Stays", the poignant tale of a Godly woman determined to make a bad marriage work is beautifully sung by Ricky Van Shelton and Andy Landis (you read about her in CR18). If you're a country buff or a newcomer, investigate this great album.
