I was surprised by this one, having been thoroughly put off by the cover and the title only to find that the music was very kind on the ears! The soloists are a bit rough but manage enough conviction to carry the day, and the recording levels could have been better. But it is a great insight into the workings of the Orthodox church and thankfully responds to the off button... The pedal (sustained) notes are exploited to the full on most tracks and produce some majestic and mournful music that I found genuinely moving.
