There's no mistaking the integrity of this wonderful Nashboro compilation, upholding the tradition of the classic gospel quartet. 'It's Jesus Y'all' runs to 19 songs and proves once again why there could never really be such a thing as white soul. This may be 70s contemporary gospel and an introduction to lesser-known line-ups, yet it resonates with the suffering south -searingly poignant cries from the heart in "I Can't Stop Holding On" by Troy Ramey and the Soul Searchers or "Lord, Give Me Strength" by Harold Boggs. In fact, it's all aching and longing -and as ultimately triumphant as the Psalms. This is an offering where simplicity rules, where the leads in the memorable "Borrowed Time" by the Swanee Quintet and "Grandma's Hands" by the Rev Cleophus Robinson haunt us with truth. It's not just what it sounds like, it's what it does to you. Get it done soon.
