Glenn Kaiser, Larry Howard, Trace Balin and Darrell Mansfield recorded live. Leaving aside the theological hand grenade (can a Christian really sing the blues?), if you like your music rough and crunchy without a microchip in sight, you'll love this. To quote the inset: "The Blues Night' has been recorded during the Blues Tour in November '93 in Gouda, Holland. What you hear is how it was, no overdubs." It's a well recorded 65 minutes worth of short sets from each of the above artists backed by a tight house band, finishing with the obligatory everybody-on-stage-no-holds-barred jam. The playing is of a high standard throughout, with some excellent extended harp/guitar soloing on Larry Howard's two songs (which clock nearly 20 minutes between them!). Downside is that some of the songs themselves are decidedly mediocre. This is the sort of music which works best live and the very enthusiastic audience are obviously loving it - especially on Glenn Kaiser's tunes. Which means it is a case ultimately of "you had to be there" to experience and see what seems to have been a memorable evening. Is there a video available?
