The Call' was a project performed in the Merseyside area to a variety of live audiences by a band and large choir. It concentrates on the call of God on the life of the disciple, using a mixture of musical styles, interspersed with spoken Bible readings and 'truths'. It has obviously taken an enormous amount of energy to take this ambitious initiative on the road and doubtless was of great benefit to both performers and audiences. And hereby lies the problem - it simply does not translate well onto tape. Apart from the strongest original song "At The Foot Of The Cross" the rest of the, collection comes across as flat, and slightly puzzling is the fact that the same male lead vocal is used non-stop throughout - surely an added female lead and other dominant vocals would have brought greater balance and variety. If you like many of these songs you'd be better sticking with the originals from the likes of Steven Curtis Chapman. On this it's a case of "Nice live, shame about the tape."
