Having long awaited the return to UK release of Per Erik Hallin, a brilliant Swedish blue eyed soul gospeller and keyboard wizard, I put on this compilation of Scandinavian Gospel artists with enthusiasm once I noted my hero's name on the opening track, a black gospel choir-style duet with one Ann Alinder. And for a while the promise of Scandi-gospel held up with Olivia McClerkin doing a nice version of Crouch's "It's Not In Vain" and even the far-from-Nordic Richard Smallwood getting in on the Scandinavian action with a song with Reflex. But once we got to side two and the middle-of-the-roaders my attention slipped a bit. Still on the whole a surprisingly soulful collection of Scandinavian gospel.
