How pot faced. I love Greenbelt for it's unorthodoxy, it's embrace of gay and lesbian Christians and that I might be able to listen to a Muslim or a Jew and maybe one day a Buddhist or a Hindu. How great that teenagers with special needs are are able to join in with activities. Greenbelt seems to understand how to love its neighbours, wherever they fit on the spectrum of humanity. As for theologians, John Bell IMO is one of the best, whatever his paper qualifications or lack of them.

Is that it??? Is that all you saw and experienced of Greenbelt this year??? Boy, did you miss out.
Only one Proclaimers song? No Seth Lakeman, Imagined Village, Nitin Sawhney, Bellowhead...and to deliberately not see any of the gifted and intelligent speakers also seems such a waste. Perhaps it is time you stopped going to Greenbelt since you seem to dislike it all so much?

Greenbelt still seems to be largely attended by Christians. But does it actually advertise itself anywhere as a Christian festival?

a lot in that review for me to disagree with but i suspect we are better off agreeing to disagree. one point though tony you mention the number of acts known to be christian! Thats known to you, your encyclopedic knowledge of all things christian music related seems to be letting you down or at least my quick skim of the program got a higher figure than you did.

I have to agree. I know for a fact that there were more than 23 Christian acts at Greenbelt because I was involved in booking them! Is a Christian act only a Christian act if Tony is aware of their existence?

Also,I find nothing so annoying as someone attending an event (or a church) with the intention of 'missonising' to the rest of us poor incorrect sinners! Unbelievably arrogant to go with no open mindedness that you may learn something.(this is referring to the man Tony met,not himself)

So do I take it that Cross Rhythms have stopped doing reviews of different acts at Greenbelt? That would be a shame as I always enjoy reading them, but if this review is anything to go by,it may be for the best,it reads like someone doing their duty, and doesn't capture any of the joy, warmth and (Holy) Spirit that I found there this year,as in previous years.

Good article. I have decided, and informed Greenbelt in no uncertain terms, that this year was my last Greenbelt. As an open, charismatic evangelical Anglican vicar, I am used to debate and discussion around Liberal theology and so I can usually take or leave the general overtone of the Greenbelt Festival but what has disappointed me in the past couple of years is the lack of Christian bands/artists being played especially on the mainstage. If I want to go to a secular or folk festival then there's Glastonbury or Cambridge. Surely Greenbelt should be highlighting the quality of Christian artists out there, especially to the young people who are attending, after all isn't it supposed to be a 'Christian' Arts festival.
