Jonathan Bellamy heard Ryan Cox's story.

Continued from page 3

Ryan: Rebellion, being rebellious to the world. I was still an angry person. I got sacked from a couple of garages for nicking cars off them, but I didn't think about things, they were just spontaneous acts.

Jon: What were you going through you, was it a cry for attention?

Ryan: A mixture. A few times it was on a suicidal basis, but as I was driving along I would just chill out and dump the car and burn it and then onto the next job.

Jon: Did you ever try to kill yourself in a car?

Ryan: I have yeah. Last year was the last time. I lost one of my daughters and then I got the phone call and I just didn't even think. I went out the front door, saw this car and nicked it and then crashed it into a lamppost trying to kill myself. Sod's law, it had its car airbags that saved me though. I got out the car, rubbed myself down and thought, "What am I still doing here?" I ran off for a minute and then went back to the car with the keys and handed myself in.

Jon: So that was the real milestone moment in your life?

Ryan: It was. I wasn't feeling myself at all. It was definitely a "God moment", hundred per cent.

Jon: Did you feel He intervened at that moment?

Ryan: Definitely, because any other time I'd just run and let the police catch up with me one day. I went back to the car and handed myself in and went to court. The courts offered me bail, but I said, "No, let's just get sentenced, because if I go back out there, then I'll be a risk to myself and to others." The courts really appreciated that. So they sentenced me and that's the last sentence I've done. CR
