A MAJOR change in how Christian music will be marketed in Europe has been announced. Following on from the purchase of the controlling interest of Holland's top Christian music company GMI Records by Britain's Nelson Word, Holland is to become the central clearing house for the vast catalogue of Christian music released by parent company Word Inc and the numerous distributed catalogues such as Rex Reunion, Integrity Music and Benson. Under the new system Word/GMI Europe as they will be known will manufacture and hold stocks of the American albums and be the point of distribution from which the web of European licensing record companies will obtain albums for their territory. Said Nelson Word's Jonathan Brown, "By doing away with the A&R control being exerted, from Milton Keynes it will enable individual companies to release albums geared to their particular territories." Brown went on, "The new system will allow European-wide promotion of Christian music."
