Sister Janet Mead receives award for services to Australian gospel music.
ONE OF the forgotten figures in the evolution of Christian music,
Sister Janet Mead, was honoured at a recent awards ceremony in
Australia. The singer received the Yamaha Golden Gospel Award on 27th
November for lifetime achievement in Australian gospel music. In 1974
the Adelaide-born nun had a version of "The Lord's Prayer" (with music
from one of her parishioners Arnold Strals) released as a single which
went on to sell a staggering three million copies. ![]()

I remember Sister Janet and can say she did make a big impact on many of us budding musicians and singers. Perhaps she was the first to put the rock church services together in mainstream churches? I am glad to see she has been recognised for her great influence on Christian music
