It has become the fashion in recent years for the singers from bands at the heavier end of the rock spectrum to release solo work showcasing a softer, more melodic side. Many have done this with great results as well with the likes of Dustin Kensrue from Thrice and Dallas Green from Alexisonfire (recording as City & Colour) coming out with excellent solo releases. Josh Scogin rose to prominence as a founding member of Norma Jean appearing on their first two albums before going on to form and front mathcore band The Chariot. 'One For My Master And One For My Dame' is his debut solo release under the name A Rose By Any Other name and sees him exploring the likes of folk "What's In A Name?" and "I Sing A Lot" while there is a strong alt country sound on "Future, Ghost, Rain". The album has the feel of a soundtrack for a night round a camp fire with its laid back vibe, atmospheric instrumentation and often contemplative lyrics. Josh clearly enjoyed writing and recording these songs and that filters through to the listener to make a thoroughly enjoyable album.
