A singer from Illinois offers an engaging set of worship gospel songs. This is Al's second recording although it's been no small wait between albums (the first 'Ultimate Lifestyle' was released 12 years ago). He cites his influences as varied and eclectic, naming some as Andrae Crouch, Sly And The Family Stone and even Santana. The latter's influence is most notable on "I Will" with Latino beats interspersed with Carlos-style guitar solos. I was also reminded of Earth, Wind And Fire on the funky "Forever". Although there is nothing particularly groundbreaking here, 'New Day' is well produced and Al is an effective and soulful vocalist. He states on his website that he sees this project as his re-entry back into the music scene and I would say that he has done pretty well. Let's hope it's not another 12 years before we hear from Al Henderson again.
