Angel Voices are in fact St. Philip's choir from Norbury, South London, who first came to public notice backing Sal Solo on his hit 'San Damiano'. Their own version of that, and other pop hits, together with some hymns, make up the bulk of this album. Choir boys samples have been well used on pop records for years now, and so it's interesting to hear what they sound like in their purest form! They really do sound like angels on songs like 'San Damiano' 'Adoramus Te' and 'Amazing Grace', which transports you into the heavenly realms. The only problem is that dreamy quality conjured up by their voices can become a bit monotonous after six or seven tracks, and there are twelve on the album! To be fair, the sound of St. Philip's is quite distinctive, as they do conjure up images of church, but without the 'posh' edge to their voices which might suggest a cathedral; in fact, there's almost a trace of cockney ac­cents from time to time. 'Orinoco Flow' 'Bright Eyes' and 'Sailing' are among the hits in­cluded, and if you want something gentle, and both church and pop at the same time, this is for you.
