19 year old Rugby born singer/songwriter Beth Tysall worked for a year as a nanny to fund her album. She has now decided to embark on a full time musical career. After listening to this, her debut album, I think it's a very wise move. Beth describes her album as Christian music with a "rock edge", however it has more to offer with both melodic and soulful ballads. The track "Burn" is very reminiscent of the band Evanescence while elsewhere her powerful vocal style is reflective Heart's Nancy Wilson. "Tribute" is another beautiful track, with thought provoking lyrics. Beth sings of the life after death "You look down and see, those who love you/Who now grieve with all their hearts/And you wish that they could feel the peace that you now have." A very well crafted first album with a mix of rock, pop and balladry. 'Like A Shadow' showcases Beth's own compositions and it's only in the covers - "How Great Thou Art" and Gershwin's "Summertime" - that the rather hackneyed choice lets her down. But overall, this is a hugely impressive debut.
