When you look at the cover of this album, and maybe scan the tracklisting or read a bit of the background in the booklet, I have no doubt that what you expect before playing the actual disc is 50 or so minutes of someone singing what is best described as easy listening music. Brian has spent the vast majority of his career behind the mixing desk of numerous, mostly Salvation Army, recordings and has also worked with a number of more international names, but has never felt able to record himself until now. What you get here is 14 songs from his life, including some well known worship classics ("Above All Powers", "Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart") amongst a varied selection. Brian's voice works better on the more traditional numbers, but doesn't really suit anything above medium pace (the version of "Any Dream Will Do" is not a great choice). Also, virtually all the backing tracks sound tired and add almost nothing to Brian's clear vocals. This is a heartfelt release from somewhere who is clearly thankful for all that God has allowed him to do and for the older audience at which 'Give Thanks' is targeted, this is a reasonable enough release.
