Southern gospel's The Collingsworth Family have had a few UK releases in recent times. On this release, violinist daughters Brooklyn Blair and Courtney Metz take centre stage for a collection of easy listening instrumentals that showcase their obvious skills as string players as well as the Family's polished production values. All concerned have played it safe in terms of song choices with overdone evergreens like "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Let There Be Peace On Earth" and "You Raise Me Up" all presented competently enough without really offering up anything new. Elsewhere, there are forays into equally familiar classical territory courtesy of excerpts from Bach's "Concerto In D Minor" and Beethoven's 9th whilst a cheese-laden take on the old Bessie Hatcher tune "Keep On The Firing Line" reflects the girls' Southern gospel roots. There is no doubting Brooklyn and Courtney's collective skill as instrumentalists but more adventurous material would have made better use of their talents.
