A few years back I was privileged to put on a series of events with Exeter's NSC as the house band and this album from Ohio's Broomtree is the kind of sound and feel - girl fronted guitar rock with stacks of attitude - that those West Country journeymen could turn out by now if they'd had access to a quality master studio like the one used here. Broomtree write songs which use the full sonic range of guitar rock, with guitars that really bite. Kylie Schlig's brittle voice works fine over the churning riffs and the lyrics of simple devotion ("There To Guide"), forgiveness ("Forgotten") and peace ("Peace") stay. Just, the right side of simplistic. Maybe not a ground breaking album but if you want well produced rock by a lady-led band. Broomtree are there at an importer near you.
