Northampton-based Cathy certainly has a distinctive voice. It conveys fragility and vulnerability, which suits many of the self-penned songs on this album. Themes of love, suffering and hope are strong, well captured in the final track "I Will Trust In You" ("When everything is shaking/And nothing seems secure/I will trust in you"). Most of the songs are written as prayers. It's not about Jesus, it's to him, and the lyrics come across as very sincere. My favourite track is "There's A Song", a country flavoured song with nice accordion effect and a positive outlook ("Your love can heal my deepest pain/And show me how to love again"). "Freedom Song" is a catchy jazz number, while "Dream Chaser" has potential as a pop single. On the minus side I felt the album was too light. Wheeler should sing with more confidence, the musical arrangements have some attractive touches but need to rely less on keyboards/programming. While the songwriting is appealing, more production depth is called for.
