Where to begin describing this, Dorinda's third album since the Clark Sisters all went solo? It's absolutely captivating and words have escaped me as I listen again. She is a living legend and deservedly so: singing like an angel, pushing the boundaries of her voice, her songwriting, her energy levels and broadening the horizons of gospel music onwards and upwards. Actually this album is not groundbreaking in the way that the Clark Sisters' early work was (the recipe here is traditional gospel with as much passion and verve as you can imagine, mixed with a tablespoon of jazz, a desert spoon of funk and a teaspoon of R&B). But it is a revelation in the way that one who has been around for so many years can sound so fresh, young, vital and stunning. All credit to producer James "Jazzy" Jordan (who also worked on Kirk Franklin's latest album, by the way) for bringing the best out of Dorinda, for providing a band so hot that they could boil an egg before the end of the first verse, and for keeping the joyful victorious gospel focus. In the closing song, Dorinda sings with John P Kee, "Lord I thank you in advance for all the things you've done: it's not over". AMEN!
