This is the fourth album from the hard rock team and was produced, mixed and mastered by lead guitarist Alex De Ross, formerly of Dokken. Faithsedge is completed by singer/songwriter Giancarlo Floridia, Mr Big drummer Matt Starr and ex-Stryper bassist Timothy Gaines. With extensive experience in the hard rock and metal scene between them, they combine to provide a record that recalls the classic hard rock sound of the '80s and early '90s. All the essential elements are there from the shredding guitar riffs, the driving bass lines and the pummelling drums which is sure to get classic rock nostalgists pumped up. Opener "Back From This" is a standout track featuring soaring guitar riffs and a punchy hook to provide an anthemic chorus. The same formula is repeated throughout the record with plenty of guitar solos and change of pace breakdowns mixed in. Whilst some tracks do feel a bit formulaic, there is plenty of variety from the more melodic "Acceptance" to the full throttle guitar shredding of album closer "Reflecting A Voice". There is even an acoustic guitar-led ballad, "I Know I Need To Let You Go", thrown into the middle of the record. It starts soft and gradually builds up layers to provide a rousing mid-point. The production is excellent, providing a full and powerful sound, and one cannot fault the musicianship. If you are pining for the days in the '80s when hard rock was king then this is definitely a record for you.
