Longtime Gaither singer Penrod here weighs in with 15 tracks of Christmas fare with secular ditties lie "Sleigh Ride", "Winter Wonderland" and "White Christmas" with some of the more traditional Christian items, such as "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", "Silent Night, Holy Night", "Away In A Manger" and "O Holy Night". I particularly enjoyed "Tennessee Christmas" accompanied by Amy Grant and her husband Vince Gill, which for me brought back memories of Amy's very successful Christmas album from years ago, recorded at the height of her popularity. "A Cradle In Bethlehem" was not familiar to me so I was quite surprised to find it emanates from 1952. Produced by Michael Omartian, the orchestrated backing takes Guy away from his favoured country instrumentation. Quite simply, there is not a duff note on this appealing release.
