West Lothian-based singer/songwriter Linette with her folky accompanists have successfully woven together a traditional Celtic sound with original music, all riding on a folk-rock style. Linette's distinctive clear vocals dominate the seven songs here while the title track with its skirling fiddle and bodhran-like war drums add colour and fervour. The slightly arcane lyrics, which here don't scan too well, are wrapped around by a full-on archetypal Celtic experience; I would love to hear this band live. Other favourites of mine include their arrangement of "Be Thou My Vision". The roiling drums introduce a pure folk sound with the music put into four time similar to the Wayne Drain classic version. "The Wait Is Nearly Over" is measured and calm but I found it ecstatic and passionate and there is more mystic symbolism about Scotland in "The Thistle And The Rose", which has some exciting moments, both instrumentally and vocally. "Your Loveliness" is a more mainstream worship song with a catchy chorus. The vocal harmony builds up nicely into a cool electric guitar solo from Cal McCrea.
