Most days at UCB Europe, the postman brings another grassroots gospel artist's album, which at least is evidence that the UK black Christian music scene is still expanding. One such is this five-track EP, a worthy but flawed effort, the main deficiencies being over-long and repetitive songs, some not very original programming and rather flat and wobbly vocal performances from all concerned. I wonder how many aspiring Kirk Franklins or CeCe Winanses actually listen to good quality music, both sacred and secular, before they take the plunge into recording their compositions, because if they did, they'd realise that technically, musically and lyrically they'd need to be better than the world's music - the message isn't enough. Only five per cent of all the music sent to UCB gets on air, so what does get on air has to be the best. Unfortunately, this isn't a five per center.
