Under their old name Fire Escape the band came within a whisker of landing the ever elusive 'secular deal' and it's easy to hear why for in Andy Scarcliffe Mercy Mercy have a singer/songwriter who puts a great deal of songwriting craft into his work. With the new name has come a sharper stylistic focus, the band's deft blend of synths and drum computers giving the band a thoroughly contemporary feel while the lyrics are no-nonsense, straight down the line exhortations to faith and devotion. Good production from the band and an above average rock gospel offering.
