Michael is a full time musician who tours the UK and abroad. This DVD, filmed in Hull in 2017 follows the CD of the same title. The story tells how Lord Bernard has a problem. Someone is in need of rescuing, but who and why is unknown. That's where Mikey and Inspector Smart, a puppet who at times reminded me of '70s TV detective Colombo, come in. On the way we are introduced to various characters, which each entertain the children on their own merits, but it is not until the end when the story comes together. I did however, wonder on occasions where the story was going during the hour-long show. There are also jokes which will amuse adults, mainly referring to the music being used ('80s/jungle/smooth jazz references). The recording is interspersed with various Tinker action songs which is ideal for the age group present (around 6/7 year olds). Michael's engagement with the children is excellent, although if you are expecting a Disney hi tech experience, you will be disappointed. The presentation is very stripped back, relying on the characters overlooking the lyrics appearing on a screen. Extras include Car Boot Karaoke featuring two songs filmed in a raw form in what looks like a van, featuring the Inspector and Mikey. My mind kept wondering if filming this while driving was a great idea! Overall, the DVD is an effective tool for kids to watch, but does not, however, lend itself to being used in sections for a Sunday school class. Production-wise it is maybe a little too basic for 21st century kids even though it does deliver its message effectively.
