Although Scott Blackwell's name does not actually appear anywhere on the cover it's his work alright. However, the inside sleeve does inform us that "Nitro Praise is a result of seeing the need for a sanctified, funky, fun, get-up-and-dance-'til-you-can't-dance-no-more praise record," which neatly sums it up, I feel. It's really the logical extension of the idea Scott began on his 'Myx Trip' albums; that of bringing established praise and worship songs well and truly onto the dance floor. And he succeeds just as completely as we've all come to expect him to. Here, we get eight tracks featuring various vocalists and then the eight instrumental versions just waiting for your alternative congregation to sing over! There's such relatively ancient favourites as "I Will Call Upon The Lord" and newer material like Ron Kenoly's "High Places". Frankly, it's brilliant and apparently there's more to come. In terms of style, there's not so much swing as Scott has used on recent releases and the result is a very pop-orientated sound. Probably as close to Stock, Aitkin And Waterman as worship is ever gonna get! A very wonderful album.
